Mercury Insurance Joins Worldwide Effort to Assist Haiti
Corporate donation will match employee contributions up to $50,000
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Mercury Insurance, one of California’s leading auto insurers, has joined the worldwide relief effort to assist victims of Haiti’s devastating earthquake by matching employee donations up to an additional $50,000.
Through Mercury’s matched giving program, employees can choose to donate funds to AmeriCares, American Red Cross, CARE and Save the Children, as well as through any of the agencies that are accepting online donations, including text message contributions. The company will conclude its matched giving program on Friday, February 26, at which time the company will distribute its matching donation to The American Red Cross.
“Mercury is proud to join with our employees to become part of this massive relief operation, which is helping to provide supplies, medical treatment and temporary shelter, as well as long-term housing reconstruction, resources and training that will help Haitians rebuild their country and put this devastating event behind them,” said Gabriel Tirador, president and CEO of Mercury. “It’s moments like this when our business stretches beyond our day to day operations and reaches beyond borders to help those in need. We are in the business of helping others, but clearly that does not stop with our policy holders. The citizens of Haiti need help now and we simply can’t ignore that.”
Mercury understands the devastation and emotional trauma that occurs following a disaster. Whether it’s wildfires in Southern California, tornados in the Midwest, hurricanes in the Southeast or a major earthquake, each of these events has one thing in common. If you are prepared then you have a much better chance of coping with the aftermath, which is why Mercury encourages all of its employees and customers to create family emergency plans.
