2011 Ford Mustang GT gets an all-new 5.0-liter V8 with 412 hp

2011 Mustang GT gets an all-new 5.0-liter V8, which delivers 412 horsepower and 390 lb-feet of torque.

That’s pretty impressive considering the current Mustang GT packs 315 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque. For comparison 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS has 422 hp from a 6.2-liter V8 and 2010 Dodge Challenger SRT8 packs 425 hp from a 6.1-liter Hemi.

New Mustang GT should be faster as it is a lot lighter than its two domestic competitors. No information on the performance numbers, but it is expected to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds.

Other highlights of the 2011 Mustang GT are a specially tuned Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS), 11.5-inch front and 11.8-inch rear vented disc brakes, an enhanced suspension, standard message center, integrated blind spot mirrors,

There is also a Brembo brake package, with larger rotors and calipers from the Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang, unique 19-inch wheels and summer performance tires.

With the new six-speed automatic transmission the 2011 Mustang GT will deliver an estimated 25 mpg highway and 17 in the city. This is up from 23 mpg highway and 17 city for the 2010 model. Models equipped with the six-speed manual are projected to deliver 24 mpg highway and 16 mpg city.

If the regular Mustang GT packs now 412 hp, we can’t wait to see the new GT500!

Has anyone been able to drive one of these? They’re amazing! I was able to drive the 5.0 v8 at the dealership here in Austin and it got my heart racing. Do you think the higher mpg will hold up after a few months of driving?

I bought a 2011 Mustang GT with a Roush, Stage 1 conversion package. I have about 6k on it now. Here is what I have noticed. I monitor my mileage very closely since I drive about 30k per year. On highway at 75 mph with ethanol gas it gets 24.5; straight gas it gets near 26. If I drop the speed down to 65 it gets 27 and at 60 it gets a little over 28. You don’t want to know the mpg at 120 (LOL).
