2012 BMW M3 DTM Concept Officially Unveiled

by Alex Patrick

BMW has released three official images of its 2012 M3 DTM Concept. This car is set to do battle with two important opponents in the luxury car segment: Audi and Mercedes-Benz.

According to Dr. Klaus Draeger, member of the board of management for BMW “We will be facing our main competitors in the premium sector – and are already looking forward to this challenge. The DTM comeback sees BMW return to its roots. We have enjoyed great success in production car racing in the past, and I am convinced we will follow on in 2012 where we left off.”

Now, after a decade and a half BMW will rejoin the DTM series. This concept car, while not the final design, gives an idea of what to expect from its return venture into the series. Even though BMW has announced that the looks of the car will most likely change considerably leading up to its first race.

2012 BMW M3 DTM, when it is finalized, will have a V-8 engine built to the series’ rules and generating about 480 horsepower. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3 seconds and reached a top speed of 300 km/h.

Currently, the M3 DTM Concept Car is on display at BMW Welt as part of the DTM event in the Olympic Stadium.
