NY Show: Scion puts spotlight on their new tC Coupe with 2.5L engine and 180HP output

by Sebastian Bivin

Scion unveils their all new tC Coupe vis-à-vis the iQ mini at the motor show in New York. This is the second generation of the compact coupe and is set to hit dealerships in the US by fall of 2010. The new tC Coupe features a more powerful 2.5L engine and a redesigned chassis.

The design lines of the new Scion tC Coupe derives some inspiration from the FUSE concept displayed during the 2006 NY auto show. The fenders were also reworked to accommodate 18-inch alloy rims hugged by wider tires.

According to the designers, the interiors are all new with hints of old styling that is focused on driving comfort and convenience. All the gauges, instruments, and center console face inward in a V-shape so you can see everything in a glance.
Toyota also revealed that the car was lengthened to provide more space for the passengers. The car also features reclining rear seats to enhance utility. The new tC still has the panoramic moonroof as a basic feature.

The 2011 tC makes use of a new platform. The suspension and power steering system of the car has been reworked. The car is also lower compared to its older brother and comes standard with bigger 16-inch disc brakes.

Under the hood is a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that generates 180 horsepower and a torque of 173 lb-ft. The figures improved by 19 for the HP and 11 for the torque compared to the previous coupe.

The new engine is coupled with either a six speed manual or automatic to transfer the power of the car to its front wheels.

We still have to hear about the fuel economy and performance numbers of the new tC Coupe.
